Grilling of first witness resumes in Meyiwa murder trial

The High Court in Pretoria heard on Tuesday that the late Brigadier Johannes Ndlovu denied ever working with Sergeant Thabo Mosia at the Senzo Meyiwa crime scene.

The denial is contained in the so-called second docket, which implicates the people who were at the house on the night Meyiwa was shot and killed.

Ndlovu’s statement comes despite Mosia saying that it was the brigadier who called him onto the scene hours after Meyiwa was shot and killed.

Ndlovu, who was a key witness in the Meyiwa murder trial, died shortly before the start of proceedings in May 2022.

He was the head of the detectives in Gauteng, who was among the first to arrive on Meyiwa's murder scene.

On Tuesday, the court heard a “hearsay” application from the legal representative of accused number five, Advocate Zandile Mshololo, regarding Ndlovu’s statement.

In the statement, Ndlovu denied working with Mosia on the night when Meyiwa was killed.

“Mosia, in this document that you have just referred to in this court, is proof that instructions and points that were given by Brigadier Ndlovu. There is nowhere he signed for that or wherein he says ‘I, Brigadier Ndlovu worked with Sergeant Mosia on this day’,” said Mshololo.

“Do you agree with me that there was no signature for Brigadier Ndlovu confirming that he was working with you here?”

Mosia told the court that he was merely trying to show the court that it was Ndlovu who had welcomed him on scene.

After various delays, proceedings in the Meyiwa murder trial have continued in Pretoria on Tuesday.

Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Ntanzi, Mthobisi Ncube, Mthokozisi Maphisa and Fisokuhle Ntuli have all been charged with Meyiwa’s 2014 murder.
