Groenewald cancels parole for Alison Botha’s attackers

Minister of Correctional Services Pieter Groenewald has cancelled parole for Frans du Toit and Theuns Kruger, the convicted attackers of Alison Botha.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Department of Correctional Services said the decision was taken following a “thorough evaluation and consultation of legal opinions”.
Botha was attacked and raped by the pair outside her block of flats in Gqeberha in December 1994.
Du Toit and Kruger were sentenced to life imprisonment in 1995.
However, they were released on parole in July 2023.
“This decision was made in accordance with the Correctional Services Act, which empowers the minister to cancel parole for individuals sentenced to life imprisonment,” the department said.
“The minister's primary consideration is the imperative of protecting and securing the community, particularly in instances where acts of violence against women and children have been committed.”
Du Toit and Kruger have been reincarcerated and will remain in custody.
