Gugulethu quiet after protests
Updated | By Lonwabo Miso
There was no protest action in Gugulethu on the East Rand on Tuesday following an outburst the night before, Gauteng police said.
"The area is quiet at the moment," Lt-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said.
Police were investigating a case of arson after a building belonging to Transnet was set alight by protesters in the area on Monday night, Dlamini said.
Forty-six people were arrested for public violence.
Dlamini said residents of the informal settlement used burning tyres and rocks to block streets on Monday.
"Several vehicles were reported to have been stoned but there were no injuries reported," he said.
Dlamini said he was not aware of the motive for the protest.
"No incidents of violence have been reported this morning," he said.
