Gupta lawyer under investigation
Lawyer for the controversial Gupta family, Gert van der Merwe, is being investigated Law Society of the Northern Provinces.
This in connection with alleged unethical behaviour.
The Democratic Alliance (DA)'s Glynnis Breytenbach says they requested the investigation.
"Van der Merwe wants to be indemnified from prosecution in a R16-million corruption and money laundering case he is accused of being part of, yet Van der Merwe's claim that he did not 'knowingly, intentionally or actively participate in any criminal activities' contradicts what he submitted in the Section 204 affidavit," says Breytenbach.
Breytenbach says the DA will push for him to be struck off the roll, should he be found to have acted unethically.
"We look forward to the findings of the investigation," says Breytenbach.

Director of the Law Society Thinus Grobler says there could serious implications if he is found guilty.
"It's a question of degree. If it's a serious offence, it may even lead to a court application against an attorney," says Grobler.
Meanwhile, Van der Merwe says he has offered his full cooperation.
"As long as I get investigated, I'm happy. I would like a report. I would like the Law Society to come to some sort of a conclusion. That's what I need," says Van der Merwe.
