Handcuffs and orange overalls as DA objects to ANC party list

The DA delivered orange overalls and handcuffs to the ANC’s Luthuli House headquarters on Wednesday to raise objections over the governing party’s list of candidates for the elections.

DA candidate for Gauteng premier Solly Msimanga was joined by provincial leader John Moodey in addressing media outside Luthuli House.

The handcuffs and overalls, according to the DA, were meant for all ANC leaders who have been implicated in acts of corruption.

Msimanga said the DA compiled a list of signatures objecting to certain names on the ANC election list.

“We’re here today to stand here and say to the people of South Africa, we are asking more than 540 000 people that came out and gave objections to say we cannot afford to have these people as leaders. If the ANC is not an arrogant organization, if the ANC really cares about the people of South Africa they will listen and make sure they remove the people from the lists that they will present in Parliament.”

Earlier this month the IEC dismissed all objections to candidates from the ANC standing for Parliament and provincial legislatures.

Some names that received objections include ANC Deputy President David Mabuza, chairperson Gwede Mantashe, as well as ministers Nomvula Mokonyane and Bathabile Dlamini.

The ANC’s national spokesperson Dakota Legoete lashed out at the DA for marching to Luthuli House.

“It has become very clear that the DA has ran out of ideas, they don’t have an alternative for the future of South Africans. It will only be fair that South Africans vote for the ANC,” he said.
