The 60-year-old woman was found with 8kg of compressed dagga in her luggage.

The eight blocks were discovered hidden in her clothes.

Hawks spokesperson Katlego Mogale says the police acted on a Crime Intelligence tip-off regarding the suspect, who was about to board a plane.

"It was reported that on Sunday, members of Germiston SOCI were informed by CIG of a suspected drug who was about to board at ORTIA. The information was operationalised, and the identified suspect had already checked in when the team arrived.

"The passenger was located at the smoking lounge whilst her luggage was intercepted at the boarding gate. The team confiscated the suspect’s cell phone for further investigation."

The suspect will appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday on charges of dealing in illegal drugs.
