The first suspect, a 47-year-old female director of a company in Limpopo, was arrested earlier this month.

It is alleged the 47-year-old director claimed R3.2 million of Covid-19 social relief funds from the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) on behalf of her 242 former Malamulele-based Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) workers.

Regional Hawks spokesperson Matimba Maluleke says the second suspect was arrested following a tip-off of an attempted cover-up.

“This arrest comes after the instigating team received a tip off that the suspect withdrew over R150 000 from the account of the said company in an attempt to conceal it from the ongoing investigations.”

The 75-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Malamulele Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
