Head-on collision kills five in Mpumalanga

The head-on collision occurred on R555 road between Middleburg and Stofberg on Wednesday night.
Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison spokesperson Moeti Mmusi says four vehicles were involved in the crash.
“What happened was there was head-on collision between a sedan and a bakkie, after the head-on collision the Sudan collided with 2 other vehicles, making it an accident that had 4 vehicles.”
According to ER24, medics found four adults and an infant trapped inside one of the vehicles
“On closer inspection, medics found four adults and an 8-month-old child lying trapped inside the light motor vehicle. Unfortunately, all five patients had already succumbed to their numerous injuries. Nothing could be done for them, and they were declared dead.”
Seven other patients, including another 8-month-old child, were found with injuries ranging from minor to critical.
“It is not clear what led to the crash, its under investigation, but according to eyewitness reports, it believed that the accident may have been due to overtaking dangerously, it was at night and there were no streetlights on the road,” adds Moeti.
