Ramokgopa briefed the media on the electricity crisis on Tuesday.

His remarks came as the country is experiencing lower levels of planned power cuts, with stage 2 in place until further notice.

Ramokgopa said Eskom continues to work hard to avoid higher stages of load shedding.

However, the country is far from being out of the woods.

"I am simply saying that there is light at the end of the tunnel," said Ramokgopa.

"This is not an oncoming train but a system whose health continues to improve and improve at levels that exceed our projections and our expectations.

"We have really turned a corner, but I am not saying that we have ended load shedding".

Ramokgopa ascribed the improved performance of the grid to high levels of planned maintenance.

"If you were to ask me what is the performance of the grid, that performance of the grid really gets to be appreciated from this unplanned capacity loss factor of consistently below 14,000 megawatts, and you can see that we are sitting at the low end of 13,000 Megawatts.

"The health of the system is improving," added Ramokgopa.
