“We have sent out an advisory for heatwave conditions expected to continue until Tuesday but there is a possibility that it might be extended, says forecaster Mbavhi Maliage.

Mailage says temperatures will top 30 degrees Celsius, with a maximum of 36 expected in places in Gauteng.

“It will be very hot temperatures are expected to be ranging in between 35 and 36 in Pretoria, in Johannesburg around 32, 33 and in the southern parts of Gauteng in the Vereeniging side it will be 33, 34.”

Meanwhile, Mpumalanga and Limpopo can expect showers and rain from Wednesday with temperatures cooling down to a minimum of 29 degrees.

“There isn't much rainfall expected for Mpumalanga and Limpopo, there is some showers and rain  expected to come through on Wednesday but that will mainly affect the eastern parts of Mpumalanga some light rain especially along the escarpment area,” says Maliage.

“In terms of temperatures, temperatures will be warm but we haven't yet reached heat wave temperatures in those provinces but we will definitely keep monitoring it but as we go into Wednesday the Mpumalanga area will experience nice cooling temperatures.

“Temperatures will cool down from around 34 and 35 in the low veld area to about 29 and 30. we are expecting a cooling for the Mpumalanga region and also the Limpopo region going into Wednesday and Thursday, it is not a drastic cooling, but it is a definitely a relief from the high city temperatures that we have been seeing for the past couple of days.”

KZN is also currently in the midst of a heatwave.

“Tomorrow (Tuesday) we are expecting isolated thunderstorms in the southern parts of KZN and if we go into Wednesday, some cooling is expected, we are expecting isolated thunderstorms in the entire province, scatted in the places in the south,” adds Maliage.
