Hlompo Mbetse murder accused granted bail for Sandton nightclub stabbing

An 18-year-old man, accused of stabbing Hlompho Mbetse to death, has been granted bail on Tuesday.

Mbetse was a grade 11 pupil at King Edward VII in Johannesburg. 

 

He was stabbed to death outside Sandton nightclub Madison Avenue last weekend.

 

The ruling was handed by Magistrates Rennie Boshoff in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday. 

 

Wearing an orange top and grey sweatpants, Dante Liang was granted R3000 bail. 

 

Speaking in court, Magistrates Boshoff ordered Liang to deactivate all his social media accounts. 

 

He further stated that the murder accused cannot leave the province without permission.

“The court is therefore fixing bail to the amount of R3000. You may not have any direct or and indirect contact with the witnesses of the case which you will get during the day. Now it also includes on all the social media platforms that you may be on. 

 

“In your bail application, you cannot leave Gauteng. You shall remain in your residence as disclosed in your bail application. You shall hand in your passport to the investigating officer after this application. You shall communicate any change in circumstance to the investigation officer.” 

 

Before his death, it is alleged that Mbetse and Liang had an altercation. 

 

Liang has been charged with murder.
