Hogan slams 'it's my time to eat' attitude in govt

Struggle activist and former minister Barbara Hogan has criticised the lack of selflessness in the ANC led-government.
She was speaking at the opening of an exhibition dedicated to late struggle veteran Ahmed Kathrada at Constitution Hill on Sunday.
Ahmed Kathrada would have celebrated his 93rd birthday on Sunday.
Hogan, who was married to Kathrada, described the "it's my time to eat" attitude as arrogant.
"This is the hubris that overtook our government. This government came in with trust and hope, it had everybody behind them, and we have shifted to hubris. We have shifted to a world where we are right, and everyone is wrong.
"With the hubris, came entitlement, 'that it is my time to eat'. So, I will kill to be a councillor because 'it is my time to eat'. I will kill to get a tender because 'it's my time to eat'."
Hogan said Kathrada's generation valued integrity and authenticity.
“He didn’t use his position of being extremely politically connected to enrich himself. We wanted to create an inclusive economy, so we created BEEE and it became a monster because it became the vehicle of entitlement, not the vehicle of enablement which has caused chaos in our society.”
