Holomisa calls for audit of MK veterans

United Democratic Movement (UDM) leader Bantu Holomisa has called for an audit into the military veterans.

Ministers held hostage

Holomisa made the call during an interview with the SABC.

The call by Holomisa comes after Defence Minister Thandi Modise and her deputy Thabang Makwetla, as well as Minister in the Presidency Mondli Gungubele, were held hostage by war veterans in Centurion on Thursday night.

Holomisa says President Cyril Ramaphosa must appoint a committee to look into the veterans.

“The commander-in-chief must appoint a committee to do a clearing exercise and call the commanders of the MK, they are still around. How many troops did you command or train, how many were inside the country. Where are the files of those people?

"Then they can work with the officials at the veteran departments. But if anyone is going to pop and say I was marching inside the country and I qualify to be called a military veteran, that is a chaos and crisis, big crisis.“

Chaos broke at the St George’s Hotel in Centurion on Thursday evening when the military veterans held the ministers against their will.

They were demanding R4 million each, medical aid, a housing allowance and bursaries for their children.

The hostage drama which lasted for two hours before an intervention by the South African Police Service special forces.
