I will never be banned from ANC - defiant Magashule continues pushback amid suspension
Updated | By Nokukhanya N Mntambo
Suspended secretary-general of the African National Congress (ANC) Ace Magashule has defied instructions not to address party supporters.
Magashule was suspended earlier this month after he failed to voluntarily step aside pending the conclusion of his corruption case.
The terms and conditions of the step aside resolution include a ban on participating in party politics, speaking on party affairs and addressing supporters at party meetings.
But a defiant Magashule challenged the party when he addressed supporters outside the Pietermaritzburg High Court where former president Jacob Zuma appeared briefly for the arms deal corruption trial.
“I can assure you nobody under a democracy will ban me. Nobody will remove the ANC from me, nobody,” he told the crowd.
“I will not form any party. I will die in the ANC. I will never leave the ANC, comrades. I will never be banned from the ANC.”

The trial was adjourned to May 26 when Zuma is expected to enter a formal plea.
Magashule vowed to return to the judicial capital.
“Next time when we come here on the 26th of May, we will bring the whole Free State here. You must listen - the whole Free State, not just ANC members.
“We want the whole KwaZulu-Natal here on the 26th of May.”
ANC NEC member Tony Yengeni spurred on Magashule as he spoke.
“If you support Msholozi [Zuma], bring your mother, your father on the 26th - we must bring South Africa to a standstill.
“Today I was just coming to greet, I will see you again on the 26th of May and I will talk again on the 26th of May.”
