I will not remain quiet: Ramaphosa
Updated | By Maryke Vermaak
Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa says he cannot remain silent as state capture and corruption threatens to derail the country.
He was speaking at the South African Communist Party's (SACP) National Congress in Boksburg, saying state resources are being used for the benefit of a few.
In a scathing speech, Ramaphosa says at no other point in their movement's history has factionalism and division been so brazen, pronounced and so confident.
He says it has now been proven that state resources were used to pay for a lavish wedding and to line the pockets of a few.
"Should we remain quiet when all this happens? No, we cannot. I am one of those who will not remain quiet."
Ramaphosa says to some it may seem as if state capture is far removed from their daily lives, but tragically it has already had a profoundly damaging impact on the people of South Africa.
"We are now saying this judicial indecent inquiry must be appointed without any further delay. The house is burning. Let us appoint this judicial inquiry."
