It remains to be seen what action will be taken against an Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) officer after she was caught on camera slapping a woman.

A video of an EMPD officer assaulting a woman at an intersection in Germiston has gone viral on social media.
There's been public outrage since the video first surfaced online.

EMPD spokesperson Wilfred Kgasago says the altercation started after the female refused to give the officers her details when she had been pulled over.
"The officer claims a woman attacked her first before the video was captured. She opened a case of assault and the woman laid a counter charge at the same police station, the following day," Kgasago says.
He has confirmed that the officers are on leave pending an investigation into the altercation.
"We can't speak about suspension because the officers have taken leave out of their own. Once they come back we can discuss action" he says.
