IEC satisfied with Nquthu voting process
Updated | By Steve Bhengu and Maryke Vermaak
No major hiccups were reported as scores of registered voters made their mark in the Nquthu by-election in KwaZulu-Natal.
Political party officials have been in the area since the weekend.
Police intervened to calm tensions at the Cassino Primary School earlier, where tempers flared between IFP, ANC and EFF supporters.
Party officials all set up tables at the entrance of the school gates.
By midday, IEC officials say about 20 000 people completed the process.
It expected a surge in numbers before the 7pm closing deadline.
IEC Acting CEO Sy Mamabolo spoke to Maryke Vermaak about the process and heightened security in the area.
