IEC tells ConCourt postponing polls will cost over R500m
Updated | By Bulletin
The Independent Electoral Commission estimates postponing the May 29th elections will cost over R580 million.
This was contained in papers filed by the IEC in response to a Constitutional Court application.
Three parties have asked the court to intervene after they failed to meet the commission's deadline to submit their candidate lists.
They are Ace Magashule's African Congress for Transformation, mining union Amcu's Labour Party, and the Afrikan Alliance of Social Democrats.
They've accused the IEC of unfairly excluding them from participating in the national and provincial elections.
The parties want the submission window reopened and the elections postponed. In opposing papers, the IEC says the parties have themselves to blame.
