In the letter, Khumalo claims Zuma fraudulently occupies the position as leader of the new party.

Khumalo, regarded as the founder of the newly formed Umkhonto weSizwe party, was recently expelled.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the IEC said it does not interfere with political parties' internal affairs and confirmed that Zuma remains a registered leader of the MK party.

"The Electoral Commission confirms that it has received communication from Mr Jabulani Khumalo on behalf of the MK Party. The letter has also been circulated extensively on social media platforms. In that letter, Mr Khumalo demanded that the Electoral Commission remove Mr Zuma as the face of MKP and as the president of the MKP," the statement read.

"The commission reiterates its stance that it does not involve itself in the internal affairs of political parties. Additionally, the commission only acts on the instruction of the registered leader of the party.

"In the present case, Mr Jacob Zuma is the registered leader of MK Party. This has been so since 10 April 2024," the IEC added.

Meanwhile, MK party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhela said Khumalo is not involved in the party.

"So, if you have been expelled, you should not have any association with the party, nor should you masquerade as the leader of the party, let alone send letters in our letterheads presenting yourself as the founder or the president of the party, which you are not.”
