Inmates escape during prison warders' strike

Six prisoners have escaped during a strike by prison warders.

Police say the inmates managed to escape from the Kutama Sinthumule Correctional Centre in Louis Trichardt.
Residents have been warned to be on alert.

Limpopo police spokesperson Motlafelo Mojapelo says the prisoners went on a rampage on Thursday night.
"Preliminary investigations reveal that some of the prison warders were on strike and the prisoners apparently took advantage of the situation," Mojapelo says.

An investigation has been launched in an attempt to re-arrest the prisoners.
