Issue of 19 quarantined votes unresolved as Gauteng ANC heads to conference

The ANC in Gauteng says the issue of the 19 quarantined votes from Ekurhuleni remains unresolved.

This comes as the party prepares to conclude its provincial conference in Boksburg this coming weekend.
The province held its four-day conference in June, without electing provincial executive committee officials, with only nominations taken after the election of officials.
The conference only managed to elect the top five leadership, where Panyaza Lesufi was elected as the provincial chairperson.
The party held a media briefing at its Luthuli House headquarters in Johannesburg on Thursday in the run-up to the conference.
National spokesperson Pule Mabe said the party is still dealing with the issue of the 19 quarantined votes from the Ekurhuleni region, in which Mzwandile Masina was provisionally re-elected as the regional chairperson.
Ekurhuleni held the conference a month ago but there were disputes about the participation of some 19 delegates from five branches, leading to the quarantine of the results.
“The issue of quarantined votes is an internal matter of ANC, it is being attended to with the relevant offices. Both the secretary-general’s office and the provincial secretary’s office assists with this matter,” says Mabe.
Mabe said the conference will deal with organisational renewal, election strategy, and socio-economic issues.
“Another very important aspect that we will pay particular attention to as the conference is to affirm, consolidate and sustain organisational discipline, fostering a sense of unity and renewal amongst the membership of the ANC in Gauteng.”
