A grade 5 pupil from Jagersfontein in the Free State has died after he was hit by a mine truck on Thursday.
The pupil, from Boaramelo Primary School, and four other boys were reportedly jumping on and off the truck when the incident happened.
The boy fell and was hit by an oncoming truck.
"At a time of the incident the learner was not at school,” says Free State Education spokesperson Howard Ndaba.
“The deceased and other four were reportedly at Valley, known as Vlei, to play there where mine workers are working to deal with aftermath of the recent disaster.”
