JMPD to close roads for memorial service

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) is closing sections of a road in Fourways, Johannesburg, for a wreath laying ceremony for two female officers who were killed during an accident at a roadblock.

The two JMPD officers were killed when a vehicle slammed into a roadblock along Witkoppen Road in Paulshof on Monday evening.
The driver of the bakkie, which also ploughed into three stationary cars, was taken into custody on suspicion of drunken driving.
Various officials, including Mayor Herman Mashaba, will pay homage to the two officers on Thursday.

Office of the Executive Mayor's Tanya Heydenrycg says the section along Witkoppen Road and Cambridge Road will be closed.
"It will only be closed for the time of wreath laying which is between 11:00 and 12:00. Thereafter everyone will move to the JMPD Academy for the memorial service starting at 13:00."
The JMPD's Wayne Minnaar says the suspect faces charges including culpable homicide, reckless and negligent driving and negligent as well as drunken driving.
