JMPD out in full force for day 2 of e-hailing taxi strike
Updated | By Eva Chipa
The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) says officers will be closely monitoring the e-hailing taxi drivers protest set to take place in the Johannesburg Central
Business Disctrict (CBD) on Wednesday.
Drivers at several e-hailing services are embarking on a three-day national shutdown that started on Tuesday.
Their demand include increased earnings in the midst of fuel price hikes, an end to exploitation and the safety of all e-hailing drivers and riders.

As Wednesday marks day 2 of the national shutdown, the drivers – which includes drivers from Uber Eats, Bolt, Uber, and associated services—will be marching in the Johannesburg CBD.
“Today their demonstration will head to the offices of the Gauteng department of roads and transport at Karr Street between Albertina Sisulu road and Commissioner street in the Johannesburg CBD,” says JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla.
Fihla adds that motorists can expect delays in the area.
“We are expecting traffic disruptions in the area but officers will be present to control and divert traffic and to monitor for any disturbances.”
