JMPD seizes drugs, firearms in Eldorado Park
Updated | By Princess Mahogo
The Johannesburg metro police seized drugs worth more than R9,000 during a crime prevention operation in Eldorado Park on Thursday.
The operation came amid a spate of gang-related incidents, such as shootings, stabbings, mugging and drugs, which have led to residents living in fear.
Last month, two pupils at Lancea Vale Secondary School were stabbed and had to be taken to hospital for medical treatment.
In a separate incident on the same day, police responded to a shooting at Willow Crescent Secondary School, where two pupils were wounded.
The operation, led by Joburg Mayor Dada Morero and Public Safety MMC Mgcini Tshwaku, also involved private security firms and local patrollers.
JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla said three men and two women were arrested on charges related to possession of drugs and firearms.
“Law enforcement officials have conducted thorough searches of premises, vehicles, and individuals, targeting known hotspots of criminal activity.”
