Several roads in Johannesburg have been closed to traffic due to violent protests in the city.

Residents took to the streets overnight in Benrose and the Denver area, with protestors barricading roads with rocks and burning tyres.
"Roads that have been blocked off include the M2 in both directions, between Benrose and Denver, on Main Reef Road and Jules Street in Jeppestown," says spokesperson for Johannesburg metro police Xolani Fihla.
"The situation is tense with vehicles being torched.
"We have also received reports of looting in Alexandra, and futher protesting and looting in Berea and at Berea Road and Anderson street in the Johannesburg CBD.
"Officers have been deployed in those areas and road users and members of the public are advised to avoid those areas and use alternative routes."
