Joburg, Tshwane residents warned of possible disruptive rain
Updated | By Mapaballo Borotho
Residents of Joburg and Tshwane have been warned of a possible disruptive rainfall on Thursday afternoon, which might lead to localised flooding in low-lying areas, informal settlements and some roads.
This comes after the South African Weather Service issued a Yellow Level 4 warning for Gauteng and eastern North West on Thursday.
Tshwane Emergency spokesperson Charles Mabaso has urged residents to observe safety measures.
"If possible, stay indoors and away from metal objects; do not seek shelter under trees or tall objects; do not go fishing or play golf, as both golf clubs and fishing rods are good conductors of electricity. Avoid crossing flooded low-lying roads, bridges and swollen streams. Be aware that any combination of hail, strong winds, heavy rain and/or excessive lighting can accompany storms."
Joburg MMC for Public Safety Mgcini Tshwaku has urged residents to be vigilant.
"The centre has activated all its level 4 protocols, which puts all essesntial services on high alert. We urge residents to be vigilant and monitor the water puddles, streams and rivers that could lead to localised flooding."
