Kodwa: ANC cannot explain a meeting it was not part of
Updated | By Nathan Daniels
The African National Congress (ANC) says it cannot provide clarity on a meeting that was not conducted by the party.
“It was not done on behalf of the ANC,” was the response of ANC presidential spokesperson, Zizi Kodwa.
Kodwa was bombarded with questions from journalists regarding former President Jacob Zuma’s alleged clandestine meeting with senior officials of the party.
He addressed media outside the commission of inquiry into state capture in Park Town on Monday.
The Sunday Times reports that some senior members, including Zuma are planning to remove President Cyril Ramaphosa.
He took a U-turn from the official response received from the party’s communications division that the story is “malicious gossip” and no such meeting took place.

“We as the ANC cannot explain a meeting we were not part of,” explained Kodwa.
He gave the assurance that the governing party is still “forging ahead with unity” and no person can change the decision taken at its elective conference which saw Ramaphosa elected as the party’s leader.
“Whatever wishes or happiness, unhappiness one individual or two may have outside of the structures – that outcome will not change.”
The party’s secretary general, Ace Magashule, is also seen in pictures allegedly taken at the hotel where the meeting took place last Thursday.
When asked whether Magashule has gone rogue, Kodwa replied that he has a right to meet anyone.

The ANC’s Chief Whip in Parliament Jackson Mthembu has called for the party to probe the alleged plot to oust Ramaphosa, saying it “deserves urgent attention” by the National Executive Committee.
“We can’t take an agenda item from media clips,” said Kodwa.
