The Department of Agriculture and Land Reform has made it clear that land grabs are not part of the land expropriation process.

The department briefed media on Tuesday morning, shortly before it delivered the budget vote in Parliament.
"So, the issue here is that when our government led by this department speaks about the issue of land it is there to create a just and equal society. So land grabs are not part of that society," said Deputy Minister Mcebisi Skwatsha.

The issue of land expropriation without compensation has been a hotly-debated topic since the African National Congress (ANC) adopted it as a policy resolution during its national conference in 2017.
However, President Cyril Ramaphosa assured South Africans during his State of the Nation Address that land expropriation would be done in an "orderly manner".
