“After the meeting with the school and the SGB MEC announced that about 36 learners were identified and have already been Suspended and their disciplinary process will be facilitated on Monday the 25 April 2022. This incident allegedly occurred on Wednesday the 20 April 2022 within the school premises. After it was alleged that the learners took advantage of the gap in the ground dirty timetable resulting in no teacher supervision at that time of the said incident. The investigation has been lodged to determine reasons why the learners were not supervised at that time.”

A widely shared video went viral this week, showing the learners from the school in uniform smoking weed.

The video has sparked aggressive debate on social media with former Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Mmusi Maimane calling for the axing of Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga for the learners’ behaviour.

Some social media users have defended the Minister and blamed the learners' behaviour on their parents.
