Parliament is currently processing legislation that seeks to standardise fares, amid several attacks on Uber drivers in Pretoria and Johannesburg.

Maswanganyi briefed the media in Pretoria on Sunday after an urgent meeting with the South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO).

The meeting managed to avert Wednesday's planned national taxi strike.

The sector says issues such as subsidies, operating licenses and finances all have a negative impact on the most-used mode of public transport.

The issue of taxi violence was also discussed, with Maswanganyi warning that government will not stand for any violence between drivers.
