Lesufi: All pupils will be placed by end November

The Department of Education in Gauteng is in talks with parents whose children do not yet have a desk in a classroom for next year.
MEC Panyaza Lesufi briefed the media in Johannesburg on Monday amid the challenges with the province’s online admission system.
Angry and confused parents descended on the department’s district office in Sandton on Sunday to demand answers as to why their Grade 1 and Grade 8 children have not been placed.
Lesufi assured parents that everyone will be placed by the end of November.
“Of the 34 000 that have not been placed and did not receive an SMS, today we released 6000 available spaces to the parents and are waiting for them to accept.
“Those that might not accept, we are now releasing our teams to consult with the parents,” he said.
The department has received over 310 350 applications.
A total of 131 383 learners have been placed in Grade 1, while 110 423 have been placed in Grade 8.
The placement period has been extended by a month to the end of November.
