Lethabo ‘one of the best performing power stations’: Ramokgopa
Updated | By Princess Mahogo
Minister of Electricity Kgosientsho Ramokgopa says Lethabo is one of the best performing power stations in South Africa.
Ramokgopa was at Lethabo Power Station in the Free State on Thursday.
Over the next two weeks, Ramokgopa will be touring power stations across the country in efforts to find a solution to the energy crisis.
“It’s one of the two best performing power stations together with Mathimba. What is exciting is that they have been able to maintain that performance over an extended period of time. If all of the power plants were to perform at this level we would not have anything called load shedding,” said Ramokgopa.
The minister says “the opportunity to resolve load shedding is at the worst performing stations like Tutuka”.
Meawhile, Ramokgopa has urged Eskom to solve any pay dispute it might have with workers.
“The CEO and Eskom board has the responsibility to address salary grievances and we are giving them time to come up with a resolution."
On Friday, he will travel to the Western Cape to visit the Ankerlig open cycle gas turbine and the Koeberg nuclear power station.
