The South African Weather Service has sent out a level 9 and 5 alert for the two provinces.

“Unfortunately, we do have a level 9 warning out for today (Sunday) for the possibility for the possibility of disruptive rainfall leading to flooding for the parts of the escarpment and lowveld areas in Limpopo and Mpumalanga.

“The level 5 warning has been issued for the central parts of Limpopo and the central and eastern highveld parts of Mpumalanga for today (Sunday), they might probably extend into tomorrow as well,” says forecaster Wayne Venter.

Venter adds that Gauteng will have a break from the wet weather on Sunday.

It is expected to continue on Monday afternoon.

“For Gauteng we have a little break today (Sunday), and then from tomorrow (Monday) we start seeing that rain coming back in during the afternoon and evening hours until Wednesday.

“Between 100 to 200 millimetres of rain are expected in the Limpopo escarpment over the next five days. But for the other areas we are expecting another 50 to100 millimetres of rain especially over the central and eastern parts of Limpopo and Mpumalanga for the next few days.”
