Limpopo makes elections-related arrest after campaign shooting

Police in Limpopo have arrested Jossey Modikane Buthane in connection with a shooting during a political party rally in the Juju Valley in Seshego last Sunday.
With an attempted murder incident related to a shooting that occurred during political party campaigns at Juju Valley in the Seshego policing area on Sunday, 19 May 2024.
According to Limpopo Police Spokesperson, Hluani Mashaba, a 25-year old man was shot during the incident, while a young girl was also hit.
"The incident resulted in a 9-year-old girl sustaining gunshot wounds," Mashaba said.
He appeared in the Seshego Magistrates’ Court on Friday, facing a charge of attempted murder, and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
"Buthane was granted bail of R5 000 and his case was postponed to July 2nd for further police investigations.
"Cases of malicious damage to property, robbery, and contravention of Sec 87(1)(f) of Electoral Act 1998, amongst others, are still under investigation."
Buthane reportedly left the EFF last month to return to the ANC.
