Limpopo family mourn slain police officer

The Limpopo police officer shot and killed on duty on Saturday has been described as a loving and outgoing man.

Warrant Officer Jan Homu was gunned down while responding to a robbery near Tzaneen in Limpopo in the early hours of Saturday morning, police confirm.


The 52-year-old leaves behind three children and a wife.


His youngest daughter Ronnel (17) says the family, especially her mother, is struggling to come to terms with the death of their loved one. 


The Grade 11 pupil spoke to Jacaranda FM News.


She says her father's legacy will never be forgotten because of the great person he was. 


Limpopo police confirm no arrests have yet been made.


A task team has been established to investigate the shooting. 


Provincial police commissioner Major General Nneke Jim Ledwaba has vowed to ensure the perpetrators are caught. 


Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Ronel Otto says: "We will use all our resources to track down the suspects."


Anyone with information about the shooting has been urged to contact their nearest police station.
