Limpopo Post Office branch manager in court for grant fraud

The Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s Court in Limpopo has granted bail to Mpundule Post Office manager Virginia Phoku after she appeared on charges related to grant fraud.
Phoku was arrested by the Nelspruit Hawks on Monday.
The Hawks claim Phoku and Lucia Mashego, who is the branch manager at Shatale Post Office, both withdrew SASSA money for their personal benefit.
Hawks spokesperson Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi says a former Nelspruit Post Office teller shared SASSA grant beneficiaries’ information with colleagues from other branches.
"It is alleged that during December 2020, Thandeka Dibakwane, a former Nelspruit post office teller, shared SASSA grant beneficiaries’ information via WhatsApp with other colleagues from other branches.
“This was aimed at defrauding money meant for the beneficiaries who were due to receive backdated funds.”
The case has been postponed to 28 August.
