Eskom spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe says the power utility cannot guarantee the stability of the grid throughout the week.

“The reason is that we are seeing a number of our units at different power stations are going offline because of technical faults, in some cases, we have reason to believe that some of these faults are man-made."

He says at one power station a conveyer belt had been damaged with a sharp object.

Phasiwe says they believe these are acts of sabotage.

“While the risk of load shedding remains high during this period Eskom has activated all its emergency structures. We will also urgently engaging union leaders to resolve this impasse.”
