This comes after a thorough search of public and private healthcare facilities failed to turn up any records of the decuplets.

On Tuesday, reports surfaced claiming Gosiame Sithole broke the Guinness World Record at a Pretoria hospital the previous night when she gave birth to the 'Tembisa 10'.

According to IOL, the 37-year-old gave birth to seven boys and three girls by C-section.

But Gauteng government spokesperson Thabo Masebe says no records were captured proving the veracity of the reports.

"At least now, what we know from the hospitals is that in did not happen in any of the Gauteng hospitals.

"The delivery happened in any other hospital, maybe outside of Gauteng, but as far as the Gauteng provincial government is concerns, we have no records of such a delivery."

According to Masebe, officials at the Department of Social Development who confirmed the news earlier, acted on hearsay.

The department claimed to have placed the new mom and her babies in a place of safety with plans to visit them on Thursday.

Masebe denies any official having knowledge of the woman's whereabouts.

"There's a social worker based in Ekurhuleni who claims to have called somebody believed to be the mother of the babies. They have not met with the person; they spoke to this person over the phone and made an arrangement to meet with the person tomorrow, but they don't even know the whereabouts of the women they spoke to on the phone."
