Load shedding to continue at stage 5, could be reduced on Thursday

Eskom says load shedding will continue to be implemented at stage 5 on Tuesday, with the possibility of being reduced by one stage only on Thursday.
The embattled power utility implemented varying stages of load shedding throughout the weekend after five units tripped at Kusile, Arnot, Camden, as well as two units at Duvha Power Station - causing a loss of 2 400MW.
The power utility says since Monday afternoon, four generation units at four power stations were taken offline for emergency repairs.
These are a generating unit each at Arnot, Lethabo, Kendal, and Majuba power stations.
Eskom spokesperson, Sikonathi Mantshanstha says seven units returned to service at Camden, Kendal, Kriel, Kusile, Lethabo, and Majuba power stations; however, load shedding remains necessary.
"While some generation units are anticipated to return to service, it is necessary to continue the Stage 5 load shedding to limit the use of the emergency generation reserves. The emergency generation reserves are severely constrained by extensive utilisation to supplement generation capacity," says Mantshanstha.
The utility is running at 4 098MW on planned maintenance, while another 17 121MW of capacity is unavailable due to breakdowns.
