Load shedding pushed up to stage 3

Load shedding pushed up to stage 3

Eskom says load shedding will be pushed to stage 3 after two generation units each at Kriel and Majuba power stations was taken out of service due to breakdowns.

Eskom starts week with stage 5 load shedding

Breakdowns currently amount to 16 356MW of generating capacity, while the generating power out of service for planned maintenance is 3 023MW.

Spokesperson Daphne Mokwena says the delays in returning to service a generating unit at Grootvlei, Hendrina and Tutuka power stations contribute to the current capacity constraints.

"Over the past 24 hours, a generating unit at Duvha, Grootvlei and Majuba power stations was returned to service. Eskom teams are working around the clock to return these generating units to service over the next few days."

"Stage 3 will be implemented from 4pm until midnight today, as communicated earlier. Thereafter, load shedding will be suspended from midnight until 5am Thursday.

"Then Stage 1 load shedding will be implemented from 5am until 4pm on Thursday. Stage 1 load shedding will be implemented from 5am until 4pm, followed by Stage 3 load shedding until midnight."

This pattern will be repeated on Friday.
