Lungisa, Dlamini, Mkhize elected to new ANC NEC

The ANC’s electoral committee chairperson Kgalema Motlanthe has announced the names of the 80 additional members of the party’s national executive committee.

The new NEC, which will serve for the next five years, was elected at the party’s national conference at Nasrec in Johannesburg.



Motlanthe says  4436 members were eligible to vote, a total of 4029 cast their votes while 133 ballots were spoiled.



Motlanthe says 41% of the committee's members are women, while 39% of members are men - which is within the party’s gender parity guidelines.



Former KwaZulu-Natal ANC chairperson Sihle Zikalala made it to the top of the list with 2218 votes.



Ronald Lamola, who lost the deputy president contest to Paul Mashatile, has also made it onto the NEC.



The top five include former KwaZulu-Natal provincial secretary Mdumiseni Ntuli, Bheki Cele, and Mduduzi Manana.


Some of the women who made it to the NEC include Khusela Diko, Thoko Didiza and Barbara Creecy.


Former ANC Women's Leaque President Bathabile Dlamini, who has been convicted of perjury, is also on the list.


The list also include some of the party’s members of parliament who are in trouble after voting in favour of the adoption of section 89 report on the Phala Phala farm saga involving president Cyril Ramaphosa.



The members are Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and Supra Mahumapelo.



Lindiwe Sisulu and Zweli Mkhize who did not vote in Parliament on the matter also made it to the final NEC list.


Members are expected to appear before the party’s integrity commission under the new NEC leadership.



Outgoing ANC spokesperson Pule Mabe, who was hoping to be voted at the party’s next treasurer-general, has also made it to the NEC.



Andile Lungisa, who was suspended by the party’s  Eastern Cape provincial executive committee (PEC) is amongst the names on the new NEC list.


ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula says Lungisa’s fate will be known on 5 January when the party conducts the final leg of the conference.


The youngest party members to make it to the NEC is Nonceba Mhlauli and Zuko Godlimpi


Members of parliament who did not make it to the NEC include Minister of International Relations Naledi Pandor, Minister of Sports Nathi Mthethwa, Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande and Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan.
