Machadodorp crash: Truck driver charged

The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety says the driver of the truck that collided with a minibus taxi has been charged with 18 counts of culpable homicide.
Tuesday’s horror crash on the R541 also involved a second taxi.
16 people died on the scene, including the two drivers of the taxis.
Two people were certified died at Belfast Hospital.
The department’s Joseph Mabuza says the driver was arrested following an investigation into the cause of the crash.
“The report of the accident has not been released yet. The driver was arrested because his statement does not correspond with the information gathered at the scene and the statements of the survivors,” says Mabuza.

Mabuza says three victims are still in a critical condition in hospital.
The department will hold a memorial service for the deceased on Friday.
