Maimane wants access to contract between Bosasa and Ramaphosa's son

Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Mmusi Maimane wants to gain access to the contact between Andile Ramaphosa and facilities management company Bosasa.

Maimane said on Sunday that he has submitted two separate requests in terms of the Promotion of Access to Information Act (Paia).

President Ramaphosa admitted in the National Assembly on Thursday that he was aware  of an alleged R500 000 payment to his son from Bosasa CEO Gavin Watson.

Ramaphosa told MP's that the money was paid for for legitimate consulting services and that he would personally take his son to jail if the contract was found to be illegal.

Maimane's spokesperson Graham Charters says they want the president to clarify the legitimacy and nature of the contract.

"Mr Maimane has submitted two separate applications in terms of the Promotion of Access to Information Act, one to the Presidency and one to Bosasa, to divulge the nature of the consulting services his son rendered to Bosasa, we want him to release the contract which he claims he has seen.

"The president needs to clarify why the payment was made to a trust account and not his son's business account."

Charters says the country cannot afford a repeat of the tenure of former president Jacob Zuma.

"Jacob Zuma's family and children benefited corruptly from his presidency. We cannot continue down this path under Ramaphosa's presidency, full transparency and accountability is the least we can expect from the president."

This is not the first time Bosasa has been embroiled in controversy.

In September, it emerged that senior African National Congress (ANC) MP Vincent Smith had been paid some R670 000 by Bosasa over the past three years and also accepted security installations at his home valued at R200 000.
