Makhura: We have neglected coloured communities

The African National Congress (ANC) Gauteng conference has kicked off with the recurring theme of organizational renewal and self-reflection.
The province will elect new leadership ahead of the 2019 general elections.
The party’s acting provincial chairperson, David Makhura, told delegates that the government has neglected coloured communities.
He was delivering his political report on Friday at the St. Georges Hotel in Irene.

“I have come across indisputable evidence of serious neglect by our government and under-investment on the coloured communities of our province."
Makhura’s comments come on the back of protests by communities in Klipspruit West, Eldorado Park and Eersterust over a lack of service delivery and housing.
“The neglect has far-reaching consequences. Crime and drugs have increased, while the standard of living has dropped, including a decline in educational achievement and advancement of our people in these communities,” Makhura told delegates.
He said the party has its work cut out in ensuring it delivers its promises to an increasingly urbanised and educated Gauteng population in the run-up to next year’s elections.
