Man dies in Fleurhof shack fire
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
Multiple shacks caught fire at a Fleurhof informal settlement in Johannesburg early Sunday morning.
Joburg emergency services spokesperson Nana Radebe-Kgiba said two fire engines and a water tanker were dispatched to the incident
On arrival, they found the blaze had already gutted some of the homes
Radebe-Kgiba said the windy conditions and low water pressure from nearby fire hydrants made it more difficult to douse the flames.
"While conducting search and rescue, the crews discovered one person who died.
"Fire safety is conducting preliminary investigations to determine the cause and where the fire started. At the moment, the city’s Disaster Management is on the scene to assist the affected families."
"Communities are urged to take necessary precautions when using heating appliances and avoid leaving candles unattended,” added Radebe- Kgiba.
