An elderly man has been brutally killed on his property in Vryheid.
The man believed to be a vegetable farmer was murdered as thousands took to the streets in protest of the scourge of crime on farms in South Africa.
Police say the 73-year-old's was hacked to death in KwaZulu-Natal.
"A suspect, believed to be in his 30s, attacked the victim with a bush knife and dragged his body to his bakkie," says police spokesperson Nqobile Gwala.
She says the victim's vehicle crashed into an electricity pole raising alarm with neighbours.
"The community saw the victim's vehicle and went to investigate. The victim died at the scene," Gwala says.
She says the suspect sustained injuries and died at the scene.
AfriForum's Ian Cameron says it's absolutely tragic that another farmer has been killed.
"He was hit to death with a panga," Cameron told Jacaranda FM News.
However, police say the deceased was not a farmer.
During the #BlackMonday protests, there was also an attack on a farmer in Klapmuts in the Western Cape, Cameron says.
