Manana granted bail

Deputy higher education minister Mduduzi Manana has been granted bail.

He appeared in the Randburg Magistrate's Court on two counts of assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm and had been granted R5000 bail.
The case has been postponed to 13 September for further investigation.
Before court proceedings began, the media had brought an application to be allowed to film in court.
However, the application was denied.
Manana's lawyer says they are opposed to the media filming court proceedings.
NPA spokesperson Phindi Majondwana says the suspect handed himself over to police on Thursday morning.
The deputy minister is accused of assaulting two women at the Cubana restaurant in Fourways at the weekend.
He has since apologised for the incident, saying despite the "extreme provocation" he should have exercised restraint.
Amid accusations of preferential treatment, Manana slipped into the court building using a side entrance.
He spent more than an hour in an office at the court before appearing before the magistrate.
