Maqubela trial continues
Updated | By Bronwyn Hardick
The trail of Thandi Maqubela, widow of acting judge Patrick Maqubela, and her co-accused Vela Mabena is expected to continue in the High Court in Cape Town on Tuesday.
The two stand accused of murder after they allegedly suffocated Maqubela with cling-wrap in his Sea Point apartment on June 5, 2009.
They have pleaded not guilty.
In addition to the murder charge, Maqubela is also charged with forging her husband's will, and fraudulently presenting it at the office of the Master of the High Court.
On March 7 their applications for acquittal and discharge were dismissed.
Patrick Maqubela was acting as a judge in the Western Cape High Court at the time of his death.
Prosecutors Bonnie Currie-Gamwo and Pedro van Wyk allege Maqubela was suffocated by placing cling wrap over his face.
The defence claims the judge died from natural causes.
