Maqubela's murder conviction overturned
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
The Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) has overturned Thandi Maqubela's murder conviction.
The 62-year-old widow was found guilty of her husband's death in November 2014.
She was also found guilty of falsifying his signature on his will nine months after his death and committing fraud by possibly benefitting from his will.
Her husband, acting judge Patrick Maqubela, was killed in his Bantry Bay home in 2009.
The former political prisoner was found dead in his bed.
The SCA agreed with medical evidence presented by specialist pathologist, Professor Saayman, that the cause of death was likely natural causes.
Maqubela pleaded not guilty to all of the charges and denied murdering her husband, whether by suffocations as alleged by the State, or by any other means.
